The space environment encompasses a very broad and diverse range of subjects, but here we will focus on the environment that artificial satellites and spacecraft are exposed to in relation to space development.

Atmospheric density is an important factor for artificial satellites orbiting the Earth. The atmosphere below an altitude of about 80 km is called the troposphere (up to an altitude of about 10 km), the stratosphere (10 to 50 km), and the mesosphere (50 to 80 km), going from the ground to the upper atmosphere. The density of the atmosphere decreases exponentially with respect to altitude, and the density of the atmosphere at an altitude of about 100 km is about 10 ^-6 of the density of the atmosphere on the ground.
