This refers to land reclamation. In the Edo period, the Hagi clan actively cultivated new fields to increase their income. There were various types of reclamation, including official reclamation carried out directly by the Hagi clan, haryo reclamation carried out at their own expense by retainers who received the right to cultivate as a reward, temple and shrine reclamation, and self-financed reclamation carried out by landowners and others at their own expense.
