[History]
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was established on July 8, 1869 (Meiji 2) as a result of the revision of the Dajokan system, according to the provisions of the Personnel Order issued on the same day. The predecessor organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were the Foreign Affairs Investigation Section, which was established on January 9, 1868, followed by the Foreign Affairs Section, Foreign Affairs Bureau, and Foreign Affairs Officer, which were established, revised, and abolished in that order. The title of the Director-General was also changed in 1868 from Director-General of Foreign Affairs (first Prince Yoshiaki) to Governor of Foreign Affairs (first Date Munenari), and later became Minister of Foreign Affairs.
