A strait that connects the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba. In Arabic, it is called the Strait of Tiran. In 1967, the strait was closed by Nasser, who was the president of the United Arab Republic at the time, which led to the outbreak of the Third Arab-Israeli War. At the time, Israel was not allowed to pass through the Suez Canal, and this was its only sea route to Asia, so the cutting off of this lifeline was justification for the start of the war. Lobsters are a local specialty. [Yoshimura Sakuji] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
