Kai Genji

Japanese: 甲斐源氏 - かいげんじ
Kai Genji

...After the 10th century, manors of nobles and temples and shrines were established in various parts of Kai, encroaching on the provincial government territory, but in the middle of the 12th century, there was a violent clash between Kii Kumano Shrine and the provincial government over Yatsushiro Manor, and the provincial government side was defeated in court (Chokan Kanbun). The Kai Genji clan rose to power based on these manors and the ranching area with the tradition of Kurokoma. Yoshikiyo and Kiyomitsu, the sons of Minamoto no Yoshimitsu, were driven out of Takeda-go in Hitachi Province around 1130 (Taiji 5) and settled in Ichikawa Manor in the province, and then advanced into the ranching area in the northern part of Koma County. ...

From the Seiwa Genji

...However, Yoshitsuna's line was wiped out during the Genji civil war. Yoshimitsu's lineage gave rise to the Satake clan of the Hitachi Genji and the Kai Genji (Takeda, Yasuda, Hemmi, etc.), while Yoshiie's son Yoshikuni's lineage gave rise to the Nitta clan of Kozuke and the Ashikaga clan of Shimotsuke.
[Establishment of the Samurai Government]
In the Hogen Rebellion of 1156 (the first year of the Hogen War), the Minamoto clan split into two factions: Tameyoshi (Yoshichika's eldest son) and his son Tametomo, who sided with Emperor Sutoku, and Yoshitomo (Tameyoshi's eldest son), who sided with Emperor Goshirakawa. Although Yoshitomo gained political status through his victory in battle, he lost most of his clan.
