A city located on the Tono Hills in the southeast of Gifu Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1955. The central districts are Izumicho on the north bank of the Toki River and Tokitsu on the south bank, and are served by the Chuo Line and the Chuo Expressway. It is a ceramics city located to the east of Tajimi City, and accounts for about 50% of the city's manufactured goods shipments (2003). Traditionally, products produced in each region were different, such as Dachi rice bowls, Izumi sencha tea bowls, and Oroshi sake bottles, but in recent years, all of these products have been used to produce tableware for daily use, which is also exported. Agar is also produced here.
