...There are more than 1,000 known species of ground wasps in the world, and they are particularly common in the tropics. In Japan, there are a dozen species, including Scolia hisforianica japonica , S. oculata , Campsomeris prismatica , and C. annulata (illustration). Both ground wasps and small wasps are important natural enemies of scarab beetles.
