Shohei Itto - Shohei Itto

Japanese:
Shohei Itto - Shohei Itto
The Northern and Southern Courts were temporarily united during the Shōhei era (1346-70) of the Nanboku-chō period. During the Kan'ō Disturbance, Ashikaga Takauji made a temporary peace agreement with the Southern Court from 1351 (Shōhei 6 | Kan'ō 2) to the following year in order to pursue his younger brother Tadayoshi, and as a result, the Northern Court emperor was temporarily dethroned and the era name was unified under the Southern Court era name (Shōhei). In the midst of the conflict between the shogunate, the Northern Court, and the Southern Court, the Kan'ō Disturbance, which began with a conflict between Tadayoshi and Takauji's steward, Takanori Moronao, divided the country into three. However, in order to secure Takauji's backing and pursue Tadayoshi in the eastern provinces, he made a peace agreement with the Southern Court in October 1351, and the following month he abolished the Northern Court era name (Kan'ō) and adopted the Southern Court era name (Shōhei) to show his submission, and Emperor Sukō and Crown Prince Naohito of the Northern Court were dethroned.
