1675‐1757
Italian female painter. Born in Venice, she first trained as a lacemaker and then as a miniature painter. She then turned to pastel painting, a new technique that was becoming popular along with the Rococo taste for lightness and refinement, and she achieved international success by painting portraits of Venetian nobility and wealthy travelers from all over Europe. Many of these portraits are busts or heads that take advantage of the characteristics of pastel to capture a fleeting expression. She traveled to Paris in 1721 and Vienna in 1730, where she was enthusiastically welcomed.

イタリアの女流画家。ベネチアに生まれ，最初レース職人，次いでミニアチュール画家として修業。さらにパステル画に転じ，軽妙と洗練を求めるロココ趣味とともに流行しつつあったこの新技法を用いて，ベネチアの上流人士やヨーロッパ各地からの富裕な旅行者の肖像を描き，国際的な成功を収めた。それらの肖像画の多くは，パステルの特質を生かして一瞬の表情をとらえた胸像または頭部像である。1721年にパリ，30年にはウィーンに旅行して盛大な歓迎をうけている。
