A city in Essex, southeast England. It was the first place where the ancient Romans established their base of rule in Great Britain, and is known as the oldest town in Britain, recorded by Pliny the Elder. A temple was built in ancient Roman times, but it was destroyed by the Briton Queen Boadicea in rebellion. In the 11th and 12th centuries, King William I built Colchester Castle on the site of the temple. In the old town, surrounded by castle walls, there is the town hall and water tower, the Natural History Museum, and the Hollytrees Museum, all built in the Victorian era.

英国イングランド南東部、エセックス州の都市。古代ローマ人がグレートブリテン島で初めて支配の拠点とした地であり、大プリニウスが記した英国最古の町として知られる。古代ローマ時代に神殿が築かれたが、ブリトン人のボアディキア女王が反乱を起こし破壊した。11～12世紀にはウィリアム1世が神殿跡にコルチェスター城を築造。城壁に囲まれた旧市街には、ビクトリア朝時代に建てられた市庁舎や給水塔、自然史博物館、ホリーツリー博物館がある。
