Oyamarindou - Oyamarindou

Japanese: オヤマリンドウ - おやまりんどう
Oyamarindou - Oyamarindou

A perennial plant of the Gentianaceae family (APG classification: Gentianaceae). The stems grow in clusters, reaching a height of 30-60 cm. The leaves are opposite, broadly lanceolate, slightly powdery white, and have 3-5 veins. From August to September, the plant produces dark bluish-purple flowers that face upward at the top of the stem or in the upper leaf axils. The seeds are lanceolate and winged. The corolla is tubular-bell shaped, similar to that of Siberian gentian, but the petals only open slightly during the flowering season. It grows in grasslands and rocky areas in the subalpine zone, and is distributed from the central Kanto region westward to Honshu and Shikoku.
