Compass constellation

Located near Alpha Centauri, this is a small constellation in the Southern Hemisphere that cannot be seen from Japan. It does not attract much attention because it is made up of faint stars below Alpha Centauri, which is 3rd magnitude. It is one of the new constellations established by the 18th century French astronomer Lacaille.

ケンタウルス座α(アルファ)星の近くにあり、日本から見ることのできない南半球の小星座。3等星のα星以下暗い星ばかりなので人目をひくこともない。18世紀のフランスの天文学者ラカイユが設定した新設星座の一つである。
