Masamitsu Koyama
Year of birth: Year of birth and death unknown. A military commander in the late Heian and early Kamakura periods. He was the son of Ota Masayoshi, a descendant of Fujiwara no Hidesato, and was called Shiro. He owned Saga Mikuriya (Oyama Manor) in Shimotsuke Province (Tochigi Prefecture), and exerted his influence as the Shimotsuke Daijo. He was in Kyoto during the Jisho-Juei Civil War, but while he was away in 1183, his wife (Minamoto no Yoritomo's wet nurse) and son Tomomasa joined Yoritomo and defeated Shida Yoshihiro of Hitachi (Ibaraki Prefecture), who was on the anti-Yoritomo side, in the Battle of Nogimiya in Shimotsuke. During Yoritomo's Battle of Oshu in 1189, he met with Yoritomo at the camp in Utsunomiya, where he spoke highly of the military exploits of the Oyama clan. His three sons Tomomasa (Oyama), Munemasa (Naganuma), and Tomomitsu (Yuki) became powerful vassals of the shogunate. <References> “Oyama City History” Comprehensive History Edition I, edited by Oyama City
