Obi Ugor - Obi Ugor

Japanese: オビ・ウゴル - おびうごる
Obi Ugor - Obi Ugor

...However, the old name Ostyak, derived from As-jax (meaning "people of the Ob River" in Khanty), once included not only the Khanty but also some of the Mansi, the Serikup (formerly Ostyak Samoyedi), and the Khet (formerly Yenisei Ostyak), which seems to reflect a cultural commonality that transcends linguistic differences (for example, a semi-settled hunter-fisher people living along the river). The Khanty and the Mansi to the west are collectively called the Ob-Ugric. The development of clans was not recognized in the Ob-Ugric, and social life was regulated by exogamous organizations of the Pol and Mos, which were totemic genealogical groups.

From the Mansi

...Population: about 8,500 (1989). Together with the Khanty people to the east, they are known collectively as the Ob-Ugric people, and are called Yugra (Yugria) in ancient Russian, European, and Arabic records. Linguistically, they are most closely related to the Magyars (Hungarians) of Eastern Europe, but this is because the Magyars migrated away from the original Ugric people, while the Ob-Ugric people remained close to their original habitat.
