A bird of the Anatidae family, found in southern China, India, Southeast Asia, Sumatra, Java, southwestern Borneo, etc. In Japan, it was named after the fact that it has been recorded on Okinawa Island and the Yaeyama Islands. However, it has not been observed recently, and its habitat in the Ryukyu Islands is unknown. Total length is about 41 cm. Its whole body is dark reddish brown, with gray and dark brown horizontal stripes on its back. The beak and legs are black. Sexes are the same color. Because its legs are long, they extend further back than the tail when flying.

カモ目カモ科の鳥。中国南部，インド，東南アジア，スマトラ島，ジャワ島，南西ボルネオなどに分布する。日本では沖縄本島と八重山諸島から記録があるため，この名がつけられている。しかし最近は観察されたことがまったくなく，琉球諸島における生息状況は不明である。全長約41cm。全身濃い赤褐色をしており，背には灰色に濃褐色の横縞がある。くちばしと脚は黒い。雌雄同色。脚が長いために，飛ぶときには尾よりも後方へ出る。
