A bird of the family Cephalidae. It has a wingspan of 6.5 cm and a body shape similar to that of a sparrow, but its beak is large and sturdy with a pale pink color. Its back is gray-blue, its head, neck and tail feathers are black, and its underside is pale brown. It is native to Java and grows in colonies on grasslands. Currently, introduced species live in Southeast Asia and Africa. It has long been kept as a captive bird, and there are varieties such as the Japanese Java Sparrow, which is the same color as the wild species, the White Java Sparrow, and the Cherry Java Sparrow, which were developed in Japan.
