…Even among ancient Roman poets and writers, Alcman's name is rarely mentioned. In the last 100 years since the second half of the 19th century, several fragments of poetry and their accompanying notes have been discovered, including a papyrus fragment containing Alcman's long work, "Maiden's Song." As a result, the elucidation of his language, phrasing, poetic style, and the contents of his thoughts has progressed significantly. The characteristic of the extant fragments of Alcman is that they are strongly colored in their depictions of peaceful activities and enjoyment, such as maidens' singing contests, festivals of the gods, the scenery of the four seasons, animals, birds, and flowers, and there is no mention of war or civil war. …
