Dan/Han - Tan

Japanese: 段∥反 - たん
Dan/Han - Tan
A unit of area in the shakkanho system. After the Taiho Code, it was used to express land area, and under the Weights and Measures Act enacted in 1891, it was determined that 36 square shaku (1 ken square) was a bu, 30 bu was a mu, and a dan was 10 mu, or 300 bu. It is about 992 m2, close to 10a. In common usage, it is also written as tan, a unit unique to Japan, and the double unit is cho, which is equal to 10 dan. In addition, tan (tan, dan) is used as a unit of length or area for Japanese fabric. [Miyake Fumi]
