Public relations activities aimed at investors. As the number of investors who view companies as investment targets increases, companies have a growing need and responsibility to widely and clearly communicate to investors the validity of their management decisions and the reasons for them. In particular, with the increase in individual investors in recent years, the quality of IR is being called into question, as the prompt and accurate disclosure of information by companies is of great significance as an investment indicator. In Japan, too, there are a considerable number of companies that are focusing on IR activities and have set up specialized departments, but some say that at present, information disclosure remains merely a formality.

投資家向けの広報活動のこと。企業を投資対象としてとらえる投資家が増えるとともに、経営判断の妥当性やその根拠を、企業側から投資家に対して広く明確に伝える必要性・責任が高まっている。とりわけ個人投資家が増えている昨今では、こういった企業の迅速かつ正確な情報開示が投資の指標としても大きな意味を持つため、IRの質が問われていると言える。日本でもIR活動に注力し、専門の担当部署を設ける企業はかなり多くはなっているものの、現状では形式的な情報開示にとどまっているとの声もある。
