The name of a school of Edo Joruri. Satsuma Gaki Fujiwara Naomasa, who descended from Satsuma Joun, moved from Kyoto to Edo during the Shoho and Keian eras (1644-51) and performed hard-line Joruri. This is called Gaki-bushi or Kudari Satsuma. It is said that he was given the name Gaki around the Jokyo era (84-88). This tune was passed down to Osatsuma Gaki Fujiwara Naokatsu, who later changed his name to Osatsuma Shuzendayu and founded Osatsuma-bushi, so Gaki-bushi was passed down to Osatsuma-bushi and was then absorbed into Nagauta. Therefore, traces of this name can still be seen in the tunes of Nagauta today. These are "Gakibushi Shakkyo," "Gaki Saru," "Kairai-shi," and "Okina Sanbaso," which are said to have been composed by the 10th head priest Kineya Rokuzaemon in an attempt to revive the Gakibushi. In addition, the Kato-bushi also has "Kairai-shi" and "Taihei Sumiyoshi-odori" as Joruri pieces entrusted to the Gakibushi.
