...In the 20th century, the firm shifted its focus from railroad bonds to fund raising (underwriting securities) for foreign governments and companies, but it was hit hard by the Great Depression of 1929, and the Kuhn-Loeb group lost its dominance. After World War II, especially from the 1960s onwards, it was pushed aside by emerging forces such as Merrill Lynch, and its position as a securities underwriter gradually declined. In the midst of a wave of securities mergers that swept through Wall Street, it merged with Lehman Brothers, another prestigious German-Jewish investment bank, in December 1977 to become Lehman Brothers Kuhn Loeb Inc. This merger was led by Lehman, and many of the former Kuhn-Loeb partners left the firm. ...
