A nematode (roundworm) with a body length of about 10 mm and a body width of about 0.4 mm that parasitizes the human small intestine. It belongs to the order Strongyloides of the phylum Nematoda and the family Coleoptera, and together with the Zubiniko nematode, it is also called the duodenal worm and is a representative type of human parasitic coleoptera. It is distributed in tropical and temperate regions of Central and South America, Africa, and Asia. Adult worms have a pair of tooth plates in their mouth pouch and bite into the small intestinal mucosa to ingest blood and tissue fluids. The amount of blood lost from the intestine during this process is estimated to be about 0.03 ml per worm per day (1/5 to 1/7 of that of the Zubiniko nematode).
