Osis and his collaborators recorded and analyzed the experiences of near-death patients in detail, and found that the paranormal experiences of heaven and hell that these patients had were similar to the hallucinatory symptoms caused by LSD and mescaline. Schizophrenic patients also often talk about and draw pictures of religious and mystical experiences that correspond to apocalyptic myths, and among these scenes appear images and visions that closely resemble those of heaven and hell.
