Japanese: 回線網 - かいせんもう（英語表記）switching network

A circuit network is a representation of the structure of a telecommunications network from the perspective of traffic processing, based on the placement of switching stations, network configuration, number of lines, etc. A typical circuit network configuration is shown in the figure. A mesh circuit network is a circuit network in which direct relay circuits are laid between each station, and is characterized by its simple configuration and low switching costs, but when the traffic volume between each station is low, the number of lines is divided into small bundles, reducing the efficiency of the transmission system. A star circuit network is a system that introduces relay switches to concentrate traffic and improves the efficiency of the transmission system by using the grouping effect, but switching costs increase by the number of relay switches introduced.

電気通信網の構造をトラヒック処理の観点から交換局の配置，ネットワークの形態，回線数などによって表現したものを回線網という。図に代表的な回線網構成を示す。網状回線網は各局間に直通の中継回線を引いた形の回線網で，構成が簡単で交換コストが安くてすむのが特徴であるが，各局間のトラヒック量が少ない場合には回線数が小束に分割されるので伝送系の使用能率は低下する。星状回線網は中継交換機を導入してトラヒックを集束化し，大群化効果によって伝送系の使用能率を向上させた方式であるが，交換コストは中継交換機導入分だけ上昇する。
