This family was in charge of postal services in Germany and the Holy Roman Empire. Originally from Lombardy, they allied with the House of Habsburg and established a postal system within their territories, which they used to gain economic and social status. First, in 1516, F. von Taxis was granted a monopoly on postal services in the Spanish Empire. In 1695, he was appointed Postmaster General of the Holy Roman Empire and the Netherlands, and in 1615, this position became hereditary for the family. At the same time, he was also listed as an imperial prince (noble), and in 1650, he was allowed to use his coat of arms, took the name Thurn-Taxis, and in 1695, he was promoted to the rank of Prince Fürst.

ドイツ･神聖ローマ帝国において郵便業務をつかさどった家系。ロンバルディアの出身であったが，ハプスブルク家と結び領域内に郵便制度をつくりあげ，これを掌握することによって経済的･社会的地位を築いた。まず1516年にF.vonタクシスがスペイン帝国内の郵便業務の独占を認められた。95年神聖ローマ帝国とネーデルラントの郵政長官を任じられ，1615年には，この職は同家の世襲職となった。これと並行して，帝国諸侯(貴族)にも列せられ，1650年に紋章の使用を許可され，トゥルン･タクシスと名のり，95年には侯Fürstの地位にのぼった。
