A representative group of dinosaurs belonging to the Ornithopoda suborder of the Ornithischia order of reptiles, with around 31 known species in 2 families, 23 genera. They are called duckbills because the shape of their skulls, especially their snouts, resembles a duck's beak. They were the first dinosaurs to be discovered in North America, and flourished mainly in North America and Asia during the Late Cretaceous period. They were herbivorous and bipedal, with many large specimens exceeding 10m in length. They are also famous for being dinosaurs that flourished through diversification of form. Adaptation mechanisms can be seen especially in the skull, jaws, and teeth. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
