Duck hunting - Kamobaryo

Japanese:
Duck hunting - Kamobaryo
Currently, it is the only traditional hunting method preserved by the Imperial Household Agency. Duck hunting grounds were established by the shogunate and various feudal lords in the mid-Edo period as a kind of social gathering place. However, this hunting method requires a large amount of land and the surrounding area must be designated as a no-gun hunting zone, so as development progressed in the Meiji period, it became difficult to continue and gradually disappeared. During this time, the Imperial Household Ministry tried to preserve them, and they are still used to entertain the Imperial Family. There are two duck hunting grounds managed and operated by the Imperial Household Agency: one in Koshigaya City, Saitama Prefecture, and the other in Ichikawa City, Chiba Prefecture. Diplomats, cabinet ministers, and members of parliament from various countries are invited to the hunting grounds during the hunting season.
