...On special occasions, such as festivals, a longer chiton was worn as a tunic. Greek cavalrymen wore a short cloak called a chlamys over the exomis, fastened at the right shoulder, and this custom was also transmitted to Western Europe via Rome. The female Doric chiton corresponds to the male chiton, and unlike the male chiton, the top part is folded over to form a double layer.
