Lake Okotanpe - Okotanpeko

Okotanpe Lake is located in the southwest of Hokkaido, in the northern part of Lake Shikotsu. It is a volcanic dammed lake at the northwest foot of Mt. Eniwa and is part of Shikotsu-Toya National Park. Although it is a small lake with an elevation of 572 meters and a circumference of 5 kilometers, it has a strong alpine lake feel, surrounded by virgin forests of Yezo spruce and Todo fir. There is a road from the shore of Lake Shikotsu to the observation point, but the forest around Lake Okotanpe is designated as a forest ecosystem protection area, and entry without permission is prohibited. Traffic is suspended in winter due to snow accumulation.

北海道南西部、支笏(しこつ)湖の北部にある湖。恵庭岳(えにわだけ)北西麓(ろく)の火山堰止湖(せきとめこ)で、支笏洞爺(とうや)国立公園の一部。湖面標高572メートル、周囲5キロメートルの小さな湖であるが、エゾマツ、トドマツの原生林に囲まれた高山湖の趣(おもむき)が強い。支笏湖畔から展望所までは自動車道があるが、オコタンペ湖周辺の森林は、森林生態系保護地区に指定されており、許可なく立ち入ることは禁止されている。冬は積雪のため交通が途絶する。
