Apologetic

...It is a field that seeks to provide a foundation for the system of dogmatics, which is the science of faith that deals with the truth of revelation. In Protestant theology, the term "Introduction to Dogmatics" (German: prolegomena) is used, but in reality, the latter has a stronger general character to the content of dogmatics, and is different in nature from the theoretical foundation of science, as in the case of foundational theology. It was once called "apologetica," but in this case, the theorizing emphasized not only the theoretical possibility of theology, the science of faith, against a view of life and the world that opposes Christianity, but also the aspect of clarifying the characteristics of Christianity and defending its truth. In this respect, its roots can already be traced back to the ancient world of church fathers such as Irenaeus, Tertullian, Origen, and Augustine.
