People's Daily - Jinmin Nippon

The official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Its English name is People's Daily. Its predecessors were the Jinchajhi Daily, the official newspaper of the Jinchajhi Branch of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and the Jinchajhi Luyu People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Jinchajhi Border District Central Bureau of the Party of China. On June 15, 1948, the two newspapers merged to form the North China Central Bureau newspaper in Lizhuang, Pingshan County, Hebei Province. On March 15, 1949, the headquarters was moved to Beijing together with the Communist Party of China. In August of the same year, it officially became the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Party of China, and took over the issue numbering from June 15, 1948. The title is in the calligraphy of Mao Zedong. It is a daily newspaper, blanket size, 24 pages (12 pages on weekends). As of 2012, the circulation was 2.85 million copies (Chugoku Shimbun Yearbook 2014 edition).

The overseas edition was launched in July 1985 and is distributed in Chinese in over 80 countries and regions. The Tibetan edition was launched in August 2009 and is distributed throughout the Tibet Autonomous Region and in Tibetan-inhabited areas such as Sichuan, Yunnan, Qinghai, and Gansu.

Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, it has been China's leading newspaper, and its main purpose is not to simply convey news, but to convey and disseminate the ideas, principles, and policies of the Party leadership both at home and abroad. For this reason, its commentaries and editorials in particular attract attention and have a great influence both at home and abroad.

As an organization, the People's Daily is a business unit directly under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and is positioned as a media organization, adopting a "presidential responsibility system under the guidance of the editorial board." The current president is Yang Zhenwu (1955-), and the chief editor is Li Baoshan (1955-).

Since the organizational reform in 2009, the People's Daily Group has expanded to include 23 internal departments and 72 branch offices both at home and abroad, with 26 affiliated newspapers and periodicals, including the Global Times and Satire and Silence, as well as three printing enterprise groups: People's Daily Publishing House, People's Daily Printing Factory, and China Press Printing Investment Group.

The newspaper is also active in multimedia development and digitalization, and officially launched an internet version in January 1997, changing its name to People's Daily in 2000. The site became People's Daily Co., Ltd. in June 2010, and was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in April 2012. People's Daily's motto is "authority, popularity, and reliability," and it disseminates information both domestically and internationally in 15 languages, with an average daily page view of approximately 400 million. In addition, in July 2012, People's Daily opened an official account on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, with the aim of securing a voice in the new information environment.

中国共産党中央委員会の機関紙。英語表記People's Daily。前身は党中央晋察冀(しんさつき)分局の機関紙『晋察冀日報』と党晋冀魯豫(しんきろよ)辺区中央局の機関紙『晋冀魯豫　人民日報』。1948年6月15日、両紙が合併して河北省平山県里庄で華北(かほく／ホワペイ)中央局機関紙として創刊された。1949年3月15日、中国共産党とともに本部を北京に移転。同年8月正式に党中央委員会機関紙となり、1948年6月15日からの号数も引き継いだ。題号は毛沢東(もうたくとう／マオツォートン)の揮毫(きごう)。日刊、ブランケット判、24ページ建て（土日は12ページ）。2012年の時点で発行部数285万部（『中国新聞年鑑』2014年版）。

　1985年7月海外版を創刊、80余の国と地域で華字紙として発行されている。また、2009年8月にはチベット語版を創刊、チベット自治区全域と四川(しせん／スーチョワン)、雲南(うんなん／ユンナン)、青海(せいかい／チンハイ)、甘粛(かんしゅく／カンスー)などのチベット族居住区で発行されている。

　中華人民共和国建国以来、中国を代表する新聞であり、単なるニュース伝達にとどまらず、党指導部の思想、方針、政策を内外に伝え、広めることを主旨とする。このため、ことに論評や社説は内外に注目され、影響力は大きい。

　組織としての人民日報は、中国共産党中央委員会直属の事業単位でありマスコミ機関と位置づけられ、「編集委員会指導下の社長責任制」を採用している。現社長は楊振武(ヤンチェンウー)（1955―　）、総編輯(しゅう)は李宝善(リーパオシャン)（1955―　）。

　2009年の組織改革以来、23内部部局、国内外72支社局をもち、『環球(かんきゅう)時報』『諷刺与幽黙(フォンツーユィヨウモー)（風刺とユーモア）』など26の系列新聞、定期刊行物、および、人民日報出版社、人民日報印刷廠(しょう)、中聞印務投資集団の印刷系3企業集団などを傘下に収める。

　マルチメディア展開やデジタル化にも積極的で、1997年1月インターネット版を正式に開設、2000年には人民網(じんみんもう)と改称。同サイトは2010年6月に人民網股份(こふん)有限公司となり、2012年4月には上海(シャンハイ)証券交易所に上場した。人民網は「権威性、大衆化、信頼性」をモットーとし、15か国語版で国内外に情報発信し、1日平均のページビュー（閲覧数）は約4億といわれる。また、人民日報は2012年7月、中国版ツイッター「微博(ウェイボー)」上に公式アカウントを開設、新しい情報環境下でも発言権を確保することを目ざしている。
