Outback Austria

In 1192, it came into the hands of the Babenberg family, Archdukes of Austria, and in 1276, after the family's extinction, it came under the rule of the new Austrian Archdukes, the Habsburgs. At the end of the Middle Ages, the family's territory was divided in two, and Styria, together with Carinthia, Klein, Istria, and Görz, was called "Inner Austria" and occupied the leading position. From the 15th to the 17th centuries, it suffered repeated invasions by Turkish troops and Hungarian rebels, and from the 16th century to the first half of the 17th century, it was swept away by the waves of the Counter-Reformation.
