Echigoya, founded by Mitsui Takatoshi in 1673, became the foundation of the Mitsui family's development, but after several organizational changes after the Meiji era, it was renamed Mitsui Gofukuten LLC in 1896. In 1904, it was separated from Mitsui and renamed Mitsukoshi Gofukuten Ltd., becoming Japan's first department store, and since then has promoted the modernization of department stores. It is well known nationwide as a high-end department store, with a total of 18 stores nationwide, including its main store in Nihonbashi, four in Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, and Hiroshima. In 2003, the former Mitsukoshi merged with its subsidiaries in Nagoya, Chiba, Kagoshima, and Fukuoka to become the new Mitsukoshi Ltd. In April 2008, it merged with Isetan to establish Mitsukoshi Isetan Holdings. → Related items Sato Asayama | Shirakiya [Stock] | Takashimaya [Stock] | Mitsui family Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
