The center is the Tomoura area, which occupies the south bank of the mouth of the Kaifu River, and consists of the fishing village of Tomoura and the commercial town of Okuura. Its origins date back to the Genki era (1570-73), when the Kaifu clan built Kaifu Castle (Tomo Castle) in Tomoura. Even after the Hachisuka clan entered Awa, it was valued as a strategic location on the border between Awa and Tosa, and Okuura flourished as a castle town. ...
