Moshoeshoe

...The ancestors of the Sotho people are said to be Nguni-speaking people who crossed the Drakensberg Mountains and migrated south in the 18th century. In the early 19th century, when King Shaka of the Zulus attacked them, King Moshoeshoe I (c. 1785-1870) fled with his family to Thaba Bosiu (a flat-topped hill near Maseru), where he used skillful diplomatic tactics to avoid invasions by the Zulus and Matabele. However, in the 1830s, the Sotho people were threatened with territorial annexation by the Boers who had been moving north.
