Gamou [town] - Kamou

Japanese: 蒲生[町] - かもう

A former town in Aira County, central Kagoshima Prefecture. Occupying the upper reaches of the Beppu River that flows into Kagoshima Bay, forestry has been thriving since the feudal era, and Gamo cedar is famous. Washi paper is also a specialty. Hachiman Shrine is home to a large camphor tree (special natural monument) that is 1,000 years old. In March 2010, it merged with Kajiki Town and Aira Town in Aira County to become a city, Aira City. ^{81.29 km2} . 7,261 people (2005).

Gamou [town] [Gamo]

An old town in the middle reaches of the Hino River in Gamo District, Shiga Prefecture. A hunting ground known as Gamo-no in ancient times, it has been developed since ancient times, and remains of the jori system and ancient tombs remain. It is famous for its rice and beef cattle. The Ohmi Railway runs through it. In January 2006, it was incorporated into Notogawa Town, Kanzaki District, and Higashiomi City. 34.64 ^km2 . Population: 14,891 (2003).
