Okinawa Development Finance Corporation

A government financial institution limited to Okinawa Prefecture. It was established in 1972 under the Okinawa Development Finance Corporation Act following the return of Okinawa to Japan. Its purpose is to complement general financial institutions by providing long-term funds to promote industrial development in Okinawa. At the time of its inauguration, it inherited the claims and liabilities of the former Ryukyu Development Finance Corporation, the Public Finance Corporation, and the Ryukyu Government's Industrial Development Finance Special Account. In addition to the inherited portion, it raises funds through government investments, the issuance of the Okinawa Development Finance Corporation's Property-type Housing Bonds and the Okinawa Development Finance Corporation's Housing Land Bonds, etc. It provides loans to agricultural, forestry, and fishery businesses, small and medium-sized enterprises, medical institutions such as hospitals, environmental sanitation-related businesses, housing construction funds, etc., and provides loans to those who are difficult to obtain from general financial institutions. It is unique in that it also performs the operations of the Japan Finance Corporation, the Japan Housing Finance Agency, and the Welfare and Medical Agency (excluding social welfare loans) on the mainland.

沖縄県に地域を限定した政府金融機関。1972年，沖縄返還に伴い沖縄振興開発金融公庫法に基づいて設立された。沖縄の産業開発促進のため長期資金を供給することによって一般金融機関の補完をなすことを目的とする。発足に際し，従来の琉球開発金融公社，大衆金融公庫および琉球政府の産業開発資金融通特別会計の債権，債務を継承した。資金は継承分のほか政府出資金，沖縄振興開発金融公庫財形住宅債券や沖縄振興開発金融公庫住宅宅地債券の発行などにより調達する。農林漁業者，中小企業者，病院などの医療機関，環境衛生関係事業者，住宅建設資金などに対する融資で，一般金融機関の融通困難なものに対して貸し付けを行なう。本土における日本政策金融公庫，住宅金融支援機構，福祉医療機構（社会福祉貸し付けを除く）の業務をあわせて行なう点に特色がある。
