Iotorishima Island

Japanese: 硫黄鳥島 - いおうとりしま

The northernmost island in Okinawa Prefecture. Also known as Torishima. It is the only island in the Amami Islands that belongs to Okinawa Prefecture. It is located about 200 km north of Kumejima and belongs to Kumejima Town. It is an active volcanic island that floats in the East China Sea about 190 km north of Naha City and about 60 km west of Tokunoshima. It produced sulfur for a long time, but due to frequent eruptions since the early 20th century, it is now uninhabited. Its area is 2.50 ^km2 .
