Chinese statesman and writer of the early Tang Dynasty. Born in Xincheng, Hangzhou (Zhejiang Province). Court name: Yan. He initially served the Sui Dynasty, but was summoned by Emperor Taizong when the Tang Dynasty was founded. He rose to the ranks of Author, Secretary of the Secretariat, Minister of Rites, and Secretary of the Secretariat, before passing away. He was involved in or was the director of the compilation of such works as "Annals of Emperor Gaozu," "Annals of Emperor Gaozong," "Book of Jin," and "Cirin of the Library and Archives," but is said to have distorted historical facts in his writings in exchange for bribes.

中国，初唐の政治家，文人。杭州新城 (浙江省) の人。字，延族。初め隋に仕えたが，唐が起ると太宗に召され，著作郎，中書舎人から礼部尚書，中書令などに進んで没した。『高祖実録』『高宗実録』『晋書』『文館詞林』などの編纂に関係あるいは総裁したが，賄賂によって史実を曲げて書いたといわれる。
