Mutsu (English name) Scombrops boops
A marine fish of the family Scutigera (illustration). It is found mainly from central Honshu south to Okinawa, but can also be found in southern Hokkaido. It is generally treated without distinction from another species of the same genus, S. gilberti . Depending on the region, juveniles are called Onshirazu, Kujiratoushi, Himutsu, etc., and adults are called Okimutsu, Kurumachi, Nodokuro, etc. In Sendai, it is called Rokunouo or Roku, which is said to be out of courtesy to the feudal lord, Date Mutsu-no-kami. Juveniles of both Mutsu and Kuromutsu are reddish brown in color, and live in large schools in very shallow, well-tidal rocky coastal areas.
