Kameyama [city] - Kameyama

Japanese: 亀山[市] - かめやま
Kameyama [city] - Kameyama
A city in northern Mie Prefecture. Established as a city in 1954. It straddles the southeastern foot of the Suzuka Mountains and the midstream of the Suzuka River, with Nobono stretching into Suzuka City. The city center prospered as a post town on the Tokaido and a castle town for the Seki and Okamoto clans. It is the junction of the Kansai Main Line and the Kisei Main Line. It is served by the Tomei-Osaka Expressway, the Ise Expressway, the Shin-Meishin Expressway, and the Meihan National Highway. The lowlands produce a lot of Ise rice, and the city is known for its black tea, green tea, export candles, and raw silk. In recent years, liquid crystal factories have been established here, and industrialization is progressing. The Suzuka Pass is located on the border with Shiga Prefecture in the northwest, and the Suzuka Barrier was once located at the foot of the pass. In January 2005, Seki Town, Suzuka County, was incorporated. Area: 191.04 km2 . Population: 51,023 (2010).
