Tuner - tuner

Tuner - tuner

A circuit or device that selects the desired radio wave from many. It is also called a channel selection device. There are cases where the name clearly indicates the broadcasting system being received, such as FM tuners and TV tuners, and cases where the name indicates the receiving frequency band, such as VHF tuners, UHF tuners, and SHF tuners. The tuner of a TV receiver is the first circuit that radio waves that reach the antenna pass through after passing through the feeder (power supply line). It generally consists of a high-frequency amplifier circuit, a mixing circuit, a local oscillator circuit, and a tuning circuit for channel selection, but the high-frequency amplifier circuit may be omitted. There are mechanical and electronic tuning methods, but recently electronic tuning is more common. This uses a diode (varactor diode) whose capacitance changes with voltage to achieve tuning. In AM and FM receivers, the device from the terminal that adds the radio waves from the feeder output to the audio signal output is called the tuner, and unlike TV receivers, its configuration usually includes an intermediate frequency amplifier, a detector, and an audio amplifier following the mixing circuit. The output signal is then applied to a preamplifier.
