Yoshio Okamoto

Children's literature author. Born in Osaka. Graduated from Waseda University. Published socially critical works such as "Ajigawakko" (October 1939) in the Kansai coterie magazine "Shin Jido Bungaku," and gained attention as a leader of collectivist fairy tales. Won the Osaka Children's Story Research Society's 1st Newcomer's Award for "Hachigokan" (Hachigokan), published in 1939 (Showa 14). Taking this opportunity, he moved to Tokyo and published "Asagao Tsukuri no Eisaku" (The English Work that Makes Morning Glories) in 1942. After World War II, he published many brilliant and controversial works such as "Rakudai Yokocho" (February 1948, "Ginga").

児童文学作家。大阪に生まれる。早稲田(わせだ)大学卒業。関西の同人誌『新児童文学』に『安治川(あじがわ)っ子』（1939.10）などの社会批判を込めた作品を発表し、集団主義童話の担い手として注目される。1939年（昭和14）発表の『八号館』で大阪童話研究会の第1回新人賞を受賞。それを機に上京して、42年『朝顔作りの英作』を出版。第二次世界大戦後は『ラクダイ横丁』（1948.2『銀河』）などの才気あふれた問題作を多く発表した。
