Teppei Kataoka

Novelist. Born in Okayama Prefecture. Active as a letter writer during his junior high school years. After dropping out of the preparatory course for French literature at Keio University, he moved between newspaper companies and other places while writing "Shita" (The Shita), which was recognized, and in 1921 (Taisho 10), he began his career as a writer. In 1921, he founded the magazine "Bungei Jidai" with Yokomitsu Riichi and others, and came into the limelight as a writer and debater of the Shinkankaku school. His representative work from this period is "Tsuna no Ue no Shoujo" (The Girl on the Tether) (1927), written in a light, new-sensational style. He began to lean leftward around 1927-1928 (Showa 2-3), and published proletarian works such as "Ayasato Mura Kaijouroku" (The Accomplishments of Ayasato Mura) (1929), but announced his conversion in 1932, and thereafter wrote popular novels such as "Shu to Midori" (Vermillion and Green) (1936).

小説家。岡山県に生まれる。中学時代は投書家として活躍。慶応義塾大学仏文科予科中退後、新聞社等を転々とする間に書いた『舌』が認められ、1921年（大正10）作家生活に入る。24年横光利一(よこみつりいち)らと『文芸時代』を創刊し、新感覚派の作家・論客として脚光を浴びる。軽快な新感覚的文体による『綱の上の少女』（1927）がこの期の代表作。27、28年（昭和2、3）ごろから左傾し、『綾里(あやさと)村快挙録』（1929）などのプロレタリア作品を発表するが、32年転向を表明し、以後は『朱と緑』（1936）などの大衆小説を書いた。
