A town in Kitasaku County in central Nagano Prefecture. It occupies the northern slope of Mt. Tateshina and is long and narrow from north to south. Ashida, in the center, is a former post station on the Nakasendo road. Rice and apples are cultivated here, and medicinal ginseng is also produced. Lake Shirakaba is located in the south, and tourism is also progressing. Get there by bus from Komoro City. 66.87 km 2 . 7,707 people (2010).
