…During the Edo period, transportation routes were developed and water projects were advanced. In particular, the Kanda and Tamagawa waterworks, which supplied water to the city of Edo, contributed to the development of new fields in Musashino. In the Meiji period, they were incorporated into the Tokyo Waterworks and are highly regarded as the beginning of the completion of the water system, such as the Tone River Dam and the Musashi Waterway, which were built after 1960. New fields were developed in the late 16th century, and in the 17th century, water from the Watarase River was used as the Okanobori waterworks to irrigate Kasakakeno, and the reclamation of the Tsubaki Sea on the Kujukuri Coast progressed. The five main roads and river transportation based at Nihonbashi, as well as maritime transportation to Osaka and Oshu, were developed, and domestic traffic and distribution became more active. …

…江戸時代には交通路も整備され，水利事業も進んだが，特に江戸の都市用水を供給する神田上水，玉川上水は，武蔵野の新田開発にも貢献し，明治に入ってからは東京水道に組み入れられ，1960年以後の利根川ダム，武蔵水路などの水系を完成する端緒として高く評価される。新田開発は，16世紀後半から始まり，17世紀には渡良瀬川の水を岡登（おかのぼり）用水として笠懸野（かさかけの）を灌漑し，また九十九里浜の椿海干拓などが進んだ。日本橋を基点とした五街道と河川交通，および大坂，奥州との海上交通が整備され，国内の往来，流通が活発になった。…
