Maimon - Maimon (English spelling) Salomon Maimon

Maimon - Maimon (English spelling) Salomon Maimon

A German Jew and philosopher from Polish Lithuania (now the Republic of Belarus). Leaving the traditional Jewish community of his hometown, he studied Maimonides, taught himself German, and meditated in poverty. After studying Spinoza and Locke, he studied Kant's critical philosophy, and his ideas, such as those seen in his criticism of the theory of things in themselves, were held in high esteem by Kant himself and had a profound influence on German idealism. His autobiography vividly depicts the struggles of Jews and Jewish society in Eastern Europe at the time, as well as the times and environment of a thinker.
