This law, which states that the properties of many liquids and gases can be attributed to the same equation of state (reduced equation of state) simply by changing the scales of temperature, pressure, and volume, determined the methods of liquefying hydrogen by J. Dewar and helium by Kamerlingh Onnes, and thus opened the door to low-temperature physics.
