Shitakisou - Shitakisou

An evergreen, woody vine of the Asclepiadaceae family (APG classification: Apocynaceae). The leaves are opposite and ovate to ovate-elliptical with a heart-shaped base. In June, fragrant white flowers bloom in the leaf axils. The corolla is high-pitched and deeply divided into five lobes, with a tubular base. It grows in evergreen evergreen forests on the coast, and is found from the Kanto region west of Honshu to Kyushu. The name is said to be an abbreviation of Shitakirisou (tongue-cut grass). The genus Stye has creeping stems, leathery leaves, and a high-pitched, long, tubular corolla. There are about five species in East Asia and Southeast Asia, and one species in Japan.

ガガイモ科（APG分類：キョウチクトウ科）の常緑で木質のつる草。葉は対生し、卵形から卵状楕円(だえん)形で、基部は心臓形となる。6月、葉腋(ようえき)に香りのある白色花を開く。花冠は高坏(たかつき)形で深く5裂し、基部は筒状となる。海岸の照葉林内に生え、関東地方以西の本州から九州に分布。名は舌切草(したきりそう)を省略したものという。シタキソウ属は、茎はつる性で葉は革質、花冠は高坏形で筒部が長い。東アジア、東南アジアに約5種、日本に1種分布。
