Shanidar man

Japanese: シャニダール人 - シャニダールじん（英語表記）Shanidar man

Neanderthals from the West Asia region. They were discovered in the Shanidar Cave in the Western Zagros Mountains in northern Iraq by RS Solecki and others, along with remains from the Mousterian culture. They lived during the Würm Glacial Period, and carbon-14 dating has estimated their age at 46,900 years ago. At first glance, the characteristics of this human are similar to those of European Neanderthals, but they also display characteristics unique to Neanderthals from West Asia, such as rounded, bulging foreheads and occipital regions, and a high head height.

西アジア地域のネアンデルタール人類。北部イラク，西ザーグロス山系のシャニダール洞窟からR.S.ソレッキーらによってムスティエ文化の遺物とともに発見された。この人類が生息したのはウルム氷期で，炭素14法の年代測定で4万6900年前と推定されている。この人類の形質は一見してはヨーロッパのネアンデルタール人類と似てはいるが，前頭部，後頭部が丸くふくらみ，頭高が高いことなど，西アジアに特有なネアンデルタール人類としての形質を示している。
